Cherry Wood Bowl — Honey-Amber Grain with Hand-Rubbed Finish
The grain lines on this cherry bowl took years to grow. It took me a few hours to reveal them. That asymmetry — decades of a tree’s slow work compressed into an afternoon at the lathe — is something I think about every time I make a piece like this.
The Wood
This blank came from a Northeast Ohio cherry log I milled myself. The figure is classic cherry: smooth, flowing grain with subtle color variation between heartwood and sapwood. Under the hand-rubbed finish, it has a warmth that feels almost amber in certain light.

Design & Finish
Wide, open bowl form — proportioned to sit comfortably on a dining table or kitchen island. The profile has a slight curve inward at the rim that gives it a refined, finished look. Hand-rubbed oil finish, food-safe. Cherry deepens in color over time with light exposure, so this piece will only get more interesting over the years.
